bird that sounds like a slide whistle

They sing lots of different songs, and they are very entertaining!

Trying to figure out whether this is a bird or insect! This bird just gives one shrill whistle every 20 to 60 seconds. And only when you pass by their area. I'm listening to a one note bird call that never varies right now. Could it be an orphaned bird? Doesn't the Northern Mockingbird mock other birds songs like the mocking birds here in Ohio and the south? "Owl" kept coming to mind but no recording matched. The bird begins around 9pm or so. I have several here too.
